Sears (NASDAQ: SHLD) wants to protect its market share in appliance sales now that J.C. Penney (NYSE: JCP) has reentered that space. To stop its rival from gaining momentum in appliances, which have been reintroduced at about 500 J.C. Penney stores, 20-plus years after the chain had exited the category, Sears has opened its first new store in years.
